Catherine Enatta Ikokoh PhD, Garba Nafada Babale PhD and Joel James Ikokoh

Climate change is the most pressing due to its evident and devastating impacts to the academic libraries environment among many issues like environmental degradation and pollution. Academic libraries worldwide are addressing climate change through outreach, services, and advocacy, recognizing its profound effects on their structures and communities. Climate change impacts libraries through alterations in temperature, humidity, and pests, affecting structures and furniture, and decreasing library usage during rainy seasons. Other impacts include warming temperatures, changes in precipitation, extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and more severe storms, which can frustrate library users. Climate change leads to broader consequences like health risks, poverty, and displacement. Libraries have the potential to educate and sensitize communities about climate action, bridging the gap between knowledge and sustainable practices. Their participation in climate action is vital for effective engagement with their academic and social communities.
