Institutionalizing Green Library to Address Climate Change for Sustainable Development in Libraries in Nigeria

The paper examined the role of libraries as change agents and advocates of climate change and sustainable development goals with an insight into how libraries in Nigeria can institutionalize action of establishing green libraries as a norm for sustainable development. Since the early days, libraries have been working to make the world a better place by improving the lives of individuals and communities. The goals were enlightenment, advocacy, literacy services and provision of free and equal access to information and services. Nigeria is a country with a lot of socio- economic and political challenges which include poverty, unemployment, droughts, bad government, conflicts and poor infrastructure, all these challenges are products of climate change as a result of the activities of humans on the earth, generating from burning of fossil fuels like coal generating greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and deforestation. The paper will examine libraries as change agents and advocates of climate change and sustainable development goals.
