This study focused on the fundamental concepts of information literacy ethics, highlighting the crucial responsibility of Library and Information Science professionals to provide users with accurate, reliable, and unbiased information. The study also explored the ethical aspects of data literacy, addressing various related issues and acknowledging concerns associated with data. The findings strongly advocate for an ethically informed approach to data literacy. The research revealed that unethical practices are prevalent among researchers in developing countries, including Nigeria. These practices encompass data falsification, plagiarism, data fabrication, data manipulation, gifted authorship, neglected authorship, and more. Such unethical activities not only violate ethical standards but also pose risks to the academic community and society at large. The study emphasizes the pressing need for heightened awareness and training in information and data ethics. It underscores the importance of integrating ethical frameworks into Library and Information Science curricula and professional development programmes.
