Jesubukade Emmanuel Ajakaye and Evelyn Nkechi Emeahara PhD.

Data which can be referred to as unsorted bits of facts is the latest fuel in the world today. It has created new pathways in every profession y and the Library and Information Science profession is not left behind. The emergence of Artificial Intelligence and its tools in this field has been experienced. This is possible because of data. Machines rely on data to be able to efficiently function. Despite the importance of data, LIS professional in Africa has failed to adequately create and use it. There is also an abundance of data in communities and most of the data has remained uncodified hence it is useless. The traditional means of collecting paper documentation has continued to be used and it is now a herculean task to make the data useful. Librarians must move from collecting library statistics on paper to making the data collected usable. To achieve this, librarians must be open to change, learn, unlearn, and relearn to be able to tell a story through data that will improve the use of library resources and services.
